On July 19, 2024, the press conference for the 5th National Wheelchair Marathon for People with Disabilities, guided by the China Disabled Persons' Federation and co-organized by the China Disabled Persons' Sports Administration Center and the China Disabled Persons' Association, was grandly held in the press conference hall of the Ganzhou Municipal Government Information Office. The event was strongly supported by the Jiangxi Disabled Persons' Federation, the Ganzhou Municipal People's Government, and the Ganzhou Nankang District People's Government. It was specifically hosted by the Jiangxi Disabled Persons' Culture and Sports Center, the Jiangxi Disabled Persons' Association, the Ganzhou Disabled Persons' Federation, and the Ganzhou Sports Bureau. At the press conference, leaders including Xiong Jun, secretary of the joint party branch of specialized associations for disabled persons in Jiangxi Province, Xiong Jingjing, deputy director of the Jiangxi Disabled Persons' Cultural and Sports Center, Liu Guanghua, member of the party group of Ganzhou Disabled Persons' Federation and acting vice-chairman, and Wen Weifu, second-level researcher of Ganzhou Sports Bureau attended the press conference. It is reported that the "Golden Lily Cup" 5th National Wheelchair Marathon for the Disabled and the Jiangxi Province Barrier-free Travel Event will be held in Nankang District, Ganzhou City, with the theme of "Exciting Wheel Rhythm, Meet in Ganzhou". The event is scheduled to be held from August 5 to 8 for four days, and the venue is located in the Home Town of Nankang District, Ganzhou City. On the morning of August 7, the competition will officially start in the Home Town. There are more than 300 contestants recommended by various provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the central government, and about 150 leaders, event staff, volunteers, and various media reporters attending the event. The event is scheduled to be held during the 16th National Fitness Day and the 14th Disabled Fitness Week.
At the press conference, Xiong Jun, secretary of the joint party branch of Jiangxi Province's disabled people's associations, gave a detailed introduction to the event, followed by Liu Guanghua, vice chairman of the board, who gave an overview of the development of disabled people's cause in Ganzhou. In response to questions from the media, Xiong Jingjing, deputy director of Jiangxi Province Disabled People's Cultural and Sports Center, and Wen Weifu, a second-level researcher at Ganzhou Sports Bureau, answered reporters' questions.
Organizing this national wheelchair marathon for the disabled fully demonstrates the spirit of self-reliance of the physically disabled to challenge the limits of life and regain confidence in life, and cultivates the trend of helping the disabled in society. With the support and participation of the whole society, four sessions have been successfully held, and this year is the fifth session. This event is not just a sports event for the disabled.
